If you're ever in a need for brown sugar but have regular granulated sugar and molasses in your pantry, you are in luck!
It is quite easy to make brown sugar. You only need two ingredients - granulated, white sugar and molasses.
Homemade Brown Sugar:
Simply add 1 cup of granulated white sugar and 2 Tablespoons of molasses to a bowl. Mix the two ingredients together by rubbing it between your fingers until the molasses is equally distributed.
Voila! You've got brown sugar!
Now you can go on and make Banana Bread!
*** If you're using the brown sugar for a baking recipe, you could skip the mixing step and simply add both ingredients, in the ratio of 1 cup to 2 Tablespoons, when the recipe calls for brown sugar.
To make your brown sugar as fine as store bought ones, simply pulse the sugar in a food processor for a few seconds before mixing it with molasses.
My go-to molasses brand has always been Grandma's. It's unsulphured and really flavorful.
- 1 cup granulated white sugar
- 2 Tablespoon unsulphured molasses (preferably unsulphured)
- Add sugar and molasses in a bowl. Rub together with fingers until molasses is evenly distributed.
- To have brown sugar as fine as the store bought ones, simply pulse the sugar in a food processor for a few seconds before mixing it with molasses.
