    Grapefruit Spritzer (non-alcoholic)

If you're in any other states, it's probably in the 40s or 50s right now and maybe awaiting snow. Not in Louisiana! It's like we've been given a bonus week of summer, and this "summer" weather was the perfect excuse to finally make this spritzer that I've been itching to replicate.

This spritzer is inspired by a grapefruit soda offered by a vendor located in H-Mart, a Korean supermarket, in Virginia.

And let me say, this spritzer was soooo good. I had it once, and now I'm a grapefruit believer.

All you got to do to become a grapefruit believer like me is:

    • Make simple syrup. Combine equal ratio of sugar to water in a saucepan over med-high heat. Stir it constantly as you heat it up, until all the sugar dissolves. Let it cool before use. Simple syrup is great to have on hand for emergencies like moistening a cake or sweetening drinks. It will last up to a month in the fridge stored in a sterilized container.
      • Variation: Combine 1.5 oz mint, 1.5 cups of sugar, 1.5 cups of water and follow steps for simple syrup.
    • Juice the grapefruit. I tested out juicing vs. blending, and I'd much prefer just juicing it. Blending requires you to remove the pulp which took longer than what my craving was happy with. Also, blending incorporates more bitterness from the grapefruits, so if you like more bitterness, there you go! However, do keep in mind that if you store the juice overnight or longer, it will become more bitter.
    • Add ice and sparkling water. I prefer San Pellegrino's Sparkling Water because the fizz seems less intense than club soda, but you are welcomed to substitute club soda for stronger carbonation.
    • Serve and enjoy! I recommend a nice wine glass, cuz this is a mocktail afterall. ๐Ÿ˜‰
    • Optional: Garnish with mint and grapefruit slices!

    Ingredients

    • 1ยฝ cups granulated sugar
    • 1ยฝ cups water
    • 6-7 grapefruits (juiced)
    • 48 fl. oz your favorite neutral sparkling water

    Optional:

    • Mint

    Instructions

    • Make the simple syrup. Over med-high heat, add the sugar and water into a small saucepan. Continuously stire the mixture until the sugar is completely dissoved. Set aside and let cool.
    • Juice Grapefruits with a citrus juicer. Strain with a fine mesh sieve to remove seeds and pulp.
    • Sweeten juice with simple syrup. Add simple syrup to the grapefruit juice. Stir.
    • Serve with ice and sparkling water. ***Equal parts juice and sparkling water is recommended. Stir and enjoy!
    • Optional: Garnish with mint, rosemary, and/ or grapefruit slices.

    Notes

โ—Simple syrup can be made and stored in sterilized containers for up to 1 month in the fridge.
โ—We found that grapefruit juice gets more bitter as it sits. So If you are a fan of that grapefruit bitterness, just let the juice sit in the fridge for a couple of days.
